Another Valentine's Day...or should I say, Single Awareness Day. To businesses, its an excuse to market their products like for example, "show how much you love her with this necklace from Pisshead Jewelers *special price only on Valentines* ". For singles, its a full day of relentless torture. For couples, its that special day of the year when eachj goes out of their way to give the significant other a sign of how much they are devoted to them. From observations, it seems BKKers are more focused on material signs of devotion...especially university students.
What makes this day so special? Sure, besides the word 'Valentine's" attached to it, there are still 24 hours in the day, the sun will surely still rise in the west and fall in the east as it has done for eons.
For me, Valentine's Day is OVERRATED period. For anyone that truly understands love, "valentine's" can happen everyday with the one you love. It is a feeling that is invoked from unconditional love for one another, it is when material displays of devotion such as those seen today i.e. "I bought ___ for my bf"."I bought ____ for my gf" is irrelevant. Instead of focusing on what to 'get' your significant other, try focusing on what to 'DO' for them...make their favourite dessert, or cook their favourite dish. Don't worry too much about the taste, but the fact that you did it far more important. Give her flowers just because its Tuesday or whatever day for that matter. It'll be far more special than giving it to someone on Valentine's Day. Think about it, do you really wanna give flowers to that special someone on the same day everyone else is doing it??
The fact that your heart belongs to them and that you don't expect anything in return..no signs of devotion, no words of poetry, no lavish gifts except to let them know how you feel, and that they mean the world to you...that is true devotion.
